I studied sculpture firstly in London at the Regent Street Polytechnic and then at the Central School
of Arts and Crafts.I studied marble carving in the studio of Master Carver Giovanni Ardini in Rome.In 1987 I received an Arts Council Masterclass grant to study with iconographer Petros Vamvoulis in Athens.
The following year I was awarded a Greek Government Scholarship to continue these studies at
the Athens School of Fine Arts. These awards led to a series of relief icons in gold and silver plate.
I am on the student register of the British School at Athens.I am a figurative artist who started my career with a series of studies and commissions for portrait sculptures.
At the same time I made maquettes in clay or wax prior to carving in wood or stone or casting into bronze
in a small foundry which I built at my studio in Hook Norton, Oxfordshire.Since living and working in Greece and then returning to Herefordshire I have been inspired to search deeply into
expressing the inner depths of the psyche. This has resulted in the series of bronze figures on display on this web site.
In them Inner Light or Spirit integral with the form is emphasised by means of highlights which are analogous
to the lights (phota) of Byzantine iconography.
