St.Nicholas' Church, Dunblane
This page shows work commissioned by the Russian Orthodox Community of St.Nicholas, Dunblane.
This included the iconostasis and the two carved panels set into the framework.
St.NicholasThe Iconostasis has been designed to accommodate the traditional range of painted icons with the deisis
above the cross beam or kosmitis. This symbolises the separation of heaven from earth. On the kosmitis
icons of the principal saints of the Church will be mounted.
The carved panels to either side of the Royal Doors in the centre are not icons. They are carvings
representing the sanctification of Nature.
ThorakasThe cross in Christian symbolism indicates the presence of the Divine.
Peacocks are both birds in nature and also are symbols of transformation and immortality.
Dolphins are not only protected mammals but are also symbolic of metamorphosis and the power of regeneration.
