George Blair

A UK based bronze figurative sculptor and Iconographer
making Greek Orthodox Relief Icons

George Blair passed away peacefully on April 1st 2008. If you are interested in his
work, please contact either Bob Blair or Romy Wyllie.

I invite you to see my sculptures and to share my sculptural vision, a dimension of
ourselves which reaches for truth through our artistic creativity and our faculty of
intelligence. Through intuition and aspiration we can find the wisdom which is able to
transmute the sensuous to an inner, more subtle and higher perception of reality.
As with prayer or meditation, or contemplation of an icon, works of art can remind us
of the transformation we can bring within ourselves.
I hope that my sculptures shown here may fulfil such a purpose for you.

"Artistic feeling or sensitivity, coupled with a quiet, inward nature, is the most
promising precondition for developing spiritual faculties.
Such artistic sensitivity penetrates through the surface of things and thus
reaches their secrets."

from "How To Know Higher Worlds" by Rudolph Steiner.

1.Bronze Figurative Sculptures.

I am a bronze figurative sculptor interested in expressing themes that are symbolic
and archetypal.
There are three groups of Bronze Figurative Sculptures 1,2, and 3 accessed
in sequence from No.1
Bronzes

2.Icons in relief.

These are Orthodox Greek Icons in the Byzantine Tradition cast in copper by
electrodeposition. Some are subsequently plated in gold and silver over the copper base.

3.Carvings.

The carvings express visions which embody ideas. It is interesting to note that
the Greek word 'eido' from which the word idea is derived means 'to see'.

Two groups of drawings are figurative and can be accessed from their first page.
