Work in hand

1.Woodcarving in the Christian Tradition

Cross

A small cross in oak for the Royal Doors of the iconostasis in the Russian Orthodox
Church, Dunblane, Perthshire.

The cross has been a symbol from the remotest ages.Archaeological finds date back
to 1500 B.C.It is one of four basic symbols, the others being the centre, the circle
and the square to which it provides a link. Like the square the cross symbolises Earth,
but it expresses aspects of intervention, dynamism and the rarefied.
Christian symbolism uses the cross to express the crucifixion of the Messiah , but also
his presence.
The cross with one cross-beam is the Cross of the New Testament as in this case.

This has been completed and installed (August 2005).

2.Wooodcarving in the Buddhist Tradition

Vajra

The vajra is a ritualistic instrument used in tantric Buddhism. The design of this
woodcarving in relief was made at Samye Ling Monastery in Scotland,
which I visited in 1983 in order to have the opportunity to acquaint myself
with the woodcarving work done there. I was provided with the basic pattern jig sawn
in limewood from which I made this woodcarving.
I would like to express my gratitude to Dr Akong Tulku Rinpoche for his
encouragement and to Yeshe Tsultrim for arrangeing this facility for me.

Click for Samye Ling Monastery website.

This woodcarving is intended to be a symbolic wall decoration.

3.Bronze sculpture entitled "Transformation"
with a Buddhist theme

This sculpture consists of two male figures arranged in such a way that I hope the viewer
will recognise that the spiritual significance of my concept is the transformation of pain,
suffering and despair into acceptance, meaning, strength and joy through the power of love.

The wax original has been cast into bronze resin and subsequently will be cast in bronze.
